Hurdles in the life of a Chemical Engineer

Run through every hurdle life gives you and reach the finish line.

No longer a wannabe Chemical Engineer.

I've GRADUATED!!!
Thanks to my family, my mom, dad, sisters, dogs, friends and everyone else that supported me.
Best part of my commencement was that they sang "You'll Never Walk Alone". Since I'm a Liverpool fan, it is very fitting for the occasion (Too bad for non Liverpool fans~).

That said, I'm finally a Chemical Engineer. It's time to change the blog's name from "Chronicles of a Chemical Engineer wannabe" to "Hurdles in the life of a Chemical Engineer"

Still receiving calls from "senior graduation"

So since I last posted about this, they have been calling me over and over again and I've been ignoring their calls over and over again. What if it were an important call?

Well, usually they would leave me a voicemail (health centers, ISU billings, etc.). These people on the other hand, just calls and when I ignored them, they move on to the next person on their call list and try calling me again the next day.

I wonder how long they can keep this up. All I have to do is just push one button to ignore their calls.

And, if it's REALLY important, they would've called twice. So I would know when to pick up and when not to.

Graduation :End of class

Today I attended the LAST class of my undergraduate years and possibly my life.... and I fear in the future I will have dreams like the one above.

Source : xkcd.com

Friday, December 10, 2010

Last day of class. Ever.

Last day I'll be having classes before I graduate...
Quantum Mech at 10-11am
IE305 Engineering Economics 1-2pm

I won't be having anymore 'classes'....

Nerdgasm in human sexuality?

Studying for my Human sexuality exam and getting too distracted by technology news (reading comments about 'nerdgasm'), I wonder why isn't there a term for nerdgasm; The affection humans give towards technological advancements.

Not to mention news of Japan marrying a manga character/ video game character or even inanimate objects... What does that categorize as?

Edit : Paraphilia (The general term used. I still can't find the specific term for such cases)
And, this question appeared in my final exam =.=
I wanted to answer paraphilia but I keep thinking there's another term for it. I looked around and found nothing... So I guess that's a -1 point for me...

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

The final dead week.

Lab Report due Friday.
Homework set for Quantum Mechanics due Monday noon next week.
Human Sexuality exam either this Thursday or Friday next week. Intend to do it this Thursday since I know by Wednesday next week I wouldn't be able to study at all....

Calls from senior gradution

It's the 3rd time, 3rd semester in a row these people have called me.
Last year I talked to them for almost 30 mins wasting my minutes. It's so hard to hang up since they're so nice. I managed to get this dude to stop calling me after ignoring enough... They even managed to get my phone number, name and address... scary... all they need is my credit card number and they'll be filthy reeech!!!

Last semester, I think the same dude called again. I told him I'm not interested. He repeated the same damn thing he mentioned the semester before. "If you can't pay $1000, how about $500, $100? $50? $25? $10, $5??"
I asked them tell me where the office is and I'll pay there. I think they wanted my credit card number or something... I told him I'm busy and hung up.
The next few days, everyday, they started calling me. I refuse to pick up their calls. I know it's their job but they won't even tell me where their office is? Sounds a little strange... and that said, I wanna say a "FUCK YOU" to ISU for releasing our student information.
So these phone calls have been going on for almost two weeks. I decided to tell them I'm not interested at all... yet he STILL tries to get me to give them "cash"....
I refused to pick up again and again and finally the calls stopped.

This semester it happens again. I got an anonymous call last night. A girl was on the other side acting all nice, asking how was my day and asking where i live and stuff.... I knew what was coming..... and I was right... it's the so called "ISU graduating seniors" people again.... I didn't want to hear anymore of this shit. I told her I was busy and she said she'll call another time.... I didn't care at that point since I know my phone number was about to be cancelled. BUT, the phone number wasn't cancelled.... so I expect to receive another call later around 6pm-ish...
I'm gonna try asking info off of her this time instead of the other way round. If I can't get any information, I'll probably give a fake number to call (867-5309), tell her it's the wrong number over and over again, or start reporting this harassment to the cops.

I'M FUCKING ANNOYED WITH THESE PHONE CALLS. STOP CALLING ME!!!

Inception Insleeption?

The past few days I'm having weird dreams.
Normal font = Reality
Italic font = Dream

I'm somehow in my old school lining up at the assembly and they told us to sit down on the floor. I sat and doze off.

*Alarm rings*
I woke up to snooze the alarm and went back to sleep.

I realized that I was dozing off and wiped the drool off my face since I was in a public place with my friends looking as well as others and teachers.

*Alarm rings again*
I woke up to snooze it.... and went back to sleep.

Somehow I ended up in the classroom. I then realized that this is a dream. I screamed out in my dream, "This is a dream. It's another nightmare of me returning to school."
Obviously no one believed me in my dream... but it didn't occur to me to materialize stuff while I could. Instead I kept telling myself "Wake up!! Stop dreaming!!!".
I ran outside the classroom trying to exit the school compound...while flailing my hands around and running towards the exit like a lunatic. After all I knew it was a dream. Who cares what happens or what others think of my actions. I bumped into my Maths teacher Mr. How and he directed me to meet a professor who is a chemical-bio engineer in his office. That's when I totally played into the dream. I forgot that I was dreaming and talked to the professor like I was still in college and about to graduate....

Feels weird how your mind wanders while you're in a dream. One moment you knew you're in a dream, the next you just play into the situation your mind sets for you.

Cake?

I've speculating on whether to post this sooner, later, or never... but decided to publish this now since all of a sudden I'm craving for cake.

Recalling back in 2006 or 2005....
I had to buy my own birthday cake and light it up myself...

This year.... no cake.
Though I did eat someone else's birthday cake and ate a cake for dessert... I don't think it counts...

It finally happened. A birthday where I never had any cake or candles to blow since the day I was born.

Note :This post was made on 22nd Nov 2010 set to publish exactly 3 months from now.
It's okay. Cakes aren't everything...

So there's my emo rant. Now if any one actually reads my blog and feels pity. I request a BlackForest cake. Thanks in advance

Missed Phone calls

I hate it when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Fuck it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn't answer?! Drop the phone and run away?
Seriously... hate it when this happens...

Songs of the past

Sunny came home

Kinda weird how a song about arson sounds so good...
Lyrics are pretty dark though...

Edit : Explanation of the song
Sunny came home to her favorite room...she finally embraced the truth

She sat down in the kitchen, opened her book (of matches) and box of tools....she was on a mission.... she came home with a list of names, she came home with a vengeance.... She had the facts and sat down one final time in her favorite place before she acted. She will make repairs of her life.

Days go by and she is hypnotized....she is being lied to....probably told by whoever is lying that she is the one that is "crazy" for her well founded suspicions. She closes her eyes and flies out of her mind, she is walking on a wire...she doesn't know why.. She realizes she hasn't been facing the truth and that she has been walking a very fine line of denial to the point of unreality.

She looks finally at the reality and she burns down the house full of lies and she takes her kids and leaves it behind once and for all, she is fine and on her own finally.....NOW she can heal.

Song of the month Nov 2010

Muse - Resistance
Still riding on the adrenaline of the Muse concert I went last month....

Thats a sick drum beat

Quantum Mechanics 3rd exam joy

95/100 OHHHH YEAAAAAAAAAAAA
I think this is the first time I got a score this high in ISU =.=
At least I got something this good before I graduate!
Was funny how I thought this exam was gonna be the hardest.

Over the weekend, I was struggling trying to understand the chapters for the exam. Couldn't understand it. Even during the review, the prof. who usually says "The exam is easy. Don't worry too much. I expect everyone in class to get 90 and above" for the first two exams (that didn't happen..) didn't say it for the 3rd. Got me really worried that the exam this time was gonna be the hardest.
Fortunately for me and everyone else who did the homework. He was kind enough to know our pain and suffering trying to understand this subject which sort of defies everything we knew. He reduced the exam questions and made it based heavily on the homework. Thanks me to him!

Don't Cry Joni : Most emo song ever... period

Sitting down at Culvers munching down some burgars and then they started playing some oldies music. Well, the culvers in my area seems to be famous among the senior citizens. Even the trivia on the table are filled with questions which seems to be made for people way older than me.
Anyway, they were playing some golden oldies song and somehow it got Tai to start singing about this song... Then we all just went emo... DON'T LEAVE HER JIMMY!!! IT'S A MISTAKE!!!!
ZOMG, the ending of the song...

Relationships : An observation with my four eyes

Based on observation of present trends, I noticed something...
Most of my male friends (at least ones I notice on facebook) who wears glasses instead of contacts are usually single...
The ones that do not wear glasses, are usually seen with their partner in their profile picture.
And the ones whom I know wears glasses but wore contact lenses instead are seen with their girlfriends.

Is wearing glasses some kinda girl repellent??? Really curious to know.
Most girls that I know requires glasses but wore contacts instead. Maybe it's a girl thing to not want to be nerdy or look nerdy. This behavior or trend then follows to their choosing of their partner.

Aesthetics aside, wearing glasses could've affected the personality of the wearer. Reading too many books, watching too many tv, playing too many games, etc. These could've affected the wearer's socializing ability.

Edit : To those that think I'm posting this as a reason to why I'm single, I have no idea but I will deny it regardless of what conclusions you come up with.

Oliver! - I'd Do Anything

Searching stuff on wikipedia leads from one page to another and somehow I was reminded of this movie... Did a search of it and found the title on wiki, searched youtube for the vids and found this among many others~

Ahh my childhood

Chelsea 0 - 2 Liverpool

2 goals by El Nino Fernando Torres!!!

Great weekend!

Horrible stinky toilet

So yesterday at the MU, I went to take a piss and the moment I entered the restroom, I was greeted with a foul smell of someone's shit. I thought, never mind, it's a toilet. It's gonna get flushed down after this dude's done with his business...

About an hour or two later, I returned to the same smell... and wondered why does it STILL stink?! Went to wash my hands, looked in the mirror and saw the stall with diarrhea shit everywhere on the toilet seat. The guy didn't even bother to flush what's in the bowl and just left everything in a mess and the toilet collecting his generated waste odor. Seriously, it's your shit, clean up after yourself or flush the damn toilet at the very least.

Pity the person who has to clean it up. (It was cleaned up between 2 to 4 hours later)

PS : The pissbowl I was pissing at was beside the stall where the guy was shitting. I saw what looks like a grey shirt/pants/costume on the ground... Hrmmm

Some highschool kid got beaten up for trash talking after winning a game.
Seriously... I say he deserve it. You've won already. Didn't have to be a sore-winner. Only pisses people off. Let this be a lesson to everyone else. You won a game, don't brag to the loser.

Quote from the article "...made him(the kid) kissed their (assaulters) feet.."

And, I don't support violence~ but that kid had it coming to him... and how the hell did those people find his address?!

Prevent getting yourself beaten up and in turn prevent having those people that beat you up obtaining any assault charges.

Worst Nightmare as far as I can remember

I've had countless nightmares. None of them had woken me up from my sleep since when I was a kid... til today. I've had nightmares about monsters, ghosts, aliens, demons, etc. Last night's nightmare freaked me out so much I woke up from my sleep in fear...

It's a random mix-up of things but here it goes...
I was in an english town, most likely country side and somehow I have a pig as a companion. It speaks and talks to me. It was somehow a best friend of mine (I don't know... it all didn't make any sense when I woke up and ponder about it). We were outside this tavern/restaurant and it was really cold out. Feeling cold I looked at this pig of mine... then starred at the tavern at all the dead pigs hung outside ready to be sliced, cooked and served to the customers. I was cold. My companion pig starred at me. Events happened and somehow my companion pig was wrapped up in a bag snorting (probably was me snoring...) as I try to hand it over to the owner of the tavern for some food and shelter. Guilt kicked in, but I was too cold and desperate. The owner refused. I had come so far as to sacrifice a friend (animal)....

Then the dream shifted (2nd level??).... I was in a house (my house in Malaysia, my aunt's house, my grandma's house), and the air feels cold. I can't remember how it happened but it seems that there was a ghost haunting me. A little girl, constantly smiling at me following wherever I go and having the ability to fade in and out of reality. I tried ways to deter her from me. He long dark hair covering her eyes, pale white face stares down at me from almost every dark corner I walk to. I have no idea who she is or what she wants. She's just scaring the shit out of me. I tried to attack her with a pole but she just fades out.
Constantly fading in and out scaring me from all corners. I woke up... I don't even know if I was REALLY awake. I realized this was the first time something scared me out of my dreams. It was too freaky to think of it. I went back to sleep not wanting to stay awake in fear. She was there again. The dream continues. She laughs. Knowing I can't do anything. My sisters somehow manifested in my dreams. Scared and couldn't do anything (for some reason in my dreams, I thought my sisters have the ability to see the paranormal). I asked them if they see anything. They didn't. Somehow my dad came and stabbed the girl with a knife to the back of her head while she was invisible. She reappeared. I took the knife from my dad and stabbed her in the chest/stomach. Ending the nightmare...

What caused this dream? Halloween I'm guessing... and me remembering how I was fearless in the Haunted Forest the last time I went...

Expression of thoughts

It seems that recently I've been expressing my thoughts without much peer pressure...
For years I've been trying to express my thoughts but I have been very uptight.

Well... this could be a good thing or a bad thing... only time will tell... I'll see how it goes.

Me & Dexter (Morgan)

I find it awfully scary at the (coincidental) similarities in personality of me and Dexter...
Pretending to fit in? Lying to fit in? Having no feelings (not that much)...
The way he sees society as a whole... damn....

No. I don't kill... I'm definitely much kinder than him... I hold grudges instead.

Edit : Just woke up from a weird dream. I dreamt that I was Dexter and helping my lil sis hook up with some dude but I wasn't being supportive all the way =.=

And a dream before that where I was in a FPS and everyone was trying to kill me... I kept running out of bullets/dying and restarting the level. Bullets, knifes, spears etc somehow kept piercing through my senseless body...

Supportive/Destructive

I can't remember if I've written about this here before or not but I'll do it again regardless...

I confess, I'm bad at supporting other people for their causes. Even with my sister about to enter a competition, I wouldn't know what to say or do to help her/ cheer her up if she loses. It's usually the cliché response depending on how she end up in the competition.
If she did well, it's "Congratulations"
If she almost got 1st place it's "Try again next time"
If she did badly, "Too bad, try again next time"

Nothing else. Just a few words. I've always been very careful with my words. Most of the time opting to say nothing at all (before I came to the states) because I wouldn't want to offend or put too much pressure.

But for me, I would love the attention, I wouldn't care much cause I know that even if my friends or family said something offensive, I know they didn't mean it. If it's me saying those things, I can't seem to get it off my mind.

Even now, I'm still trying to be supportive to others. Telling them not to give up. Giving them advices on how to achieve their goals. For me? I needed a push to reach my goal. Like how an eagle teaches her off-springs how to fly. I have to thank my mom for that. All the naggings and scolding I got back in Malaysia while I was in school....

Fall fashion is sexy in it's own way

Jeans play no part in this. And I'm talking about FEMALES.

Jackets (not winter jackets), a scarf, boots, tights/skirts and the occasional gloves/sun glasses/hats make a woman pretty attractive IMO. Well it's a personal taste.

If I had to rate the seasons of fashions, it would be
Fall, closely followed by Spring and Summer and Winter dead last. (Fall being top because of the red/yellow leaves that gives a lovely background setting for these fall attires.)

Yea summer has the sundresses and bikinis but you won't see girls wearing bikinis to classes (at least probably not in Iowa). Fall clothing on the other hand, girls are able to reveal more by wearing more.
The colors they choose also play a part in this. Red/yellow/black basically the colors of fall a few levels darker would be the ideal color palette for my tastes. I wish I could find pictures as examples but all I could find are those weird fashion designer ones.

Casual fall is the way to go.

Edit : I might be biased because British/French woman are hot both in looks and voice~

I hate remembering the past

I hate remembering the past.
It makes me feel depressed at the things I could've done but didn't do;
Things I shouldn't have done but did.

They say that you shouldn't regret what you have done but instead regret what you COULD have done.

It's my last semester before graduation and it seems that only now I'm starting to do the things I haven't done or always thought of doing. One of my biggest regrets of college life.

The older you get, the harder it is do to certain things...
I remember this figure which depicts how people are amused with young geniuses....

When you're 1-10 years of age, people consider you a genius.
When you're 11~16 years of age, people consider you smart
When you're 17~22 years of age, people consider you intelligent
Once you exceed 22 years, you're just normal...

It's kinda sad thinking that through the passage of your life, your presence will be more insignificant. Sucks...

Well.. of course unless you're in the entertainment business....
Then your life would be like a sin/cosine graph.
You're well treated at birth, ignored for a while, then gained recognition in the Jackson5, then disappeared til you grew up and started singing thriller, disappeared, got into the news with a skin disease, disappeared, then got into the news again with pedophillia, come back concert and death... and after that... an endless amount of ups and downs..

Come to think of it... I just contradicted myself.... your significance/presence depends on how you live your life. Either you do nothing and disappear to oblivion or do something that will show the world that you exist and not just some other guy/girl

10/10/10

Happy 10/10/10~

10am, 10th minute, 10th second

Zodiacs

Just posting this since it was in my facebook notes and not on my blog

So if you see/ read some chinese horoscopes, you noticed that they show what kind of chemistry/ love life these animals will have with one another...

Eg. If you're a Rabbit, you'd marry a Sheep/ Boar

See here.... the age difference between those animals are like 4~6 years apart (depending on which zodiac year you're born in)

You're either gonna get a really OLD or a really YOUNG partner if you base your life on this.

PS : I'm born in the year of the TIGER (which is why I have that poster of a Tiger in my room :D

Scams/Viruses/Hacked

People are not aware enough to the dangers of believing everything you see on the internet. So I shall post this again.

Enjoy surfing the internet~

To those that joined the "SONY PLAYSTATION3 GIVEAWAY PROMOTION" group, notice the steps, specifically part 2,
2) On the bottom left of this page there is a little button that says "Share"... Click it, and hit "Share" when it pops up. This allows the Dislike feature to be used on all of your friends' pages.
Seems like a scam to me.
"Dislike button" ? A VERY bad copy and paste. By the way, the Dislike button is a scam too.

Not to mention the rule where you have to invite ALL your friends in order to access a very sketchy website to register. (How is it supposed to know you sent it?)
Do yourselves and all your friends who aren't interested a favor. STOP FALLING FOR SCAMS SUCH AS THESE.

Such scams send spam to your friends; on facebook, on msn, emails and etc. Even worse, it can wipe out everything on your computer by means of a virus.

How about the "I WON'T PAY $$$ TO USE FACEBOOK" group?
Where in the world did you hear that facebook's starting to charge? Do you believe everything on the internet because it is? If a Nigerian prince emailed you that he is going to send you $1million to your bank account will you give him all your bank information? (Well someone was dumb enough to fall for it. Go look it up).

I could've blogged this but instead I'll leave it up here for everyone to read.

PS : If you're a victim of such scams and your peers start asking why you're sending malicious and suspicious links to them,
STOP falling for these scams in the first place
READ my blog and search for 'MSN virus' for more information
CHANGE your password. That should stop bots from sending spam to your friends.

Charity performances

I know of the effort put in and countless hours practicing for the charity events. But if you're doing this for a different reason other than to help the needy, you probably shouldn't perform at all. I'm talking of course about people that takes advantages of others misfortune to gain fortune.

Disasters and Me

I leave a disaster almost everywhere I go...

Penang Earthquake tsunami (from the Indonesian Tsunami of 2006) occurred 1 week after I left Penang.
Ames Flood 2008 occurred when immediately after I went back to Malaysia for summer break.
Ames Flood 2010 occurred when I was back in Malaysia for the summer break.

Is this a curse or just a huge coincidence?

Flirtations

Do pick-up lines really work? Lemme try my luck

"Can i take a picture with you? what for? I wanna show santa what I want for Christmas"

Or maybe something a little unorthodox?

"Did you fart? Cause you totally blew me away"

how about something I came up with all these diet routines going around :

"How much can you eat before you realize that you're getting fat? What if I took you to _____(expensive) restaurant for dinner?"
I think the only thing I'll probably get out of that is a slap to the face...

Song of the month Oct 2010

7 posts in one day
Been holding out for these few days since I was too busy watching Dexter

Song : Imitation of Life
Artist : REM
Music video is really amazing. Pan and zoom, forward and reverse over and over again from a 20 second-ish video. Truly a work of art. And the song, very calming IMO

Dear Tarzan/George of the Jungle

Dear Tarzan/George of the Jungle,

That loin cloth you wore all your life will not bear you any kids. Dead animals' skin, not properly sanitized, it's a miracle you still manage to live til you were an adult without much medication and relying solely on your antibodies. What's even more amazing is that you were able to bear kids and at the same time not inflicting any STI's to your dearly beloved. And speaking of your loving and faithful wife, are you sure she isn't cheating on you? As mentioned before I doubt you're able to have any healthy kids... so why does your wife/spouse gave birth to a healthy one? It boggles the mind.

From,

Woman, (400th entry)

"You need a woman to tell her she's a woman"
- Some song I heard

Edit : This is my 400th entry

Blood #3 : Bleeding

Nosebleeds... before and after blood donation.
I was hoping that by donating my blood, I can stop these random nosebleeds (I had one the day before donation)...
but this morning it happened again.... So I guess I'm losing more blood than I needed...

Lets just hope I don't faint which I think I was close to yesterday during the lab session.
Was feeling light headed and had to squat down and stand back up again. Not a good sign...

Edit : I'm no stranger when it comes to nosebleeds though it's starting to get frequent and as often as back in April (do a search of nosebleeds on my blog) 2010. The moisturizing saline solution does help a little bit but if I miss not spraying it up my nose, it can lead to a very red day...

Blood #2 : Donation

So I went and donated blood on Wednesday. My first time donating blood. Reading through the brochure, I noticed that people sometimes feel light headed or dizzy after donating blood. Yea I was worried that it might happen to me since I'll be having an exam on that night. Still, I went for it.

Procedure prior to the 'poking' of the veins for blood was rather straight forward. Answer about 48 questions about your health and where you have been. Standard screening procedures. I passed.

I've had needles poked into my arm before and it does sting a bit and for a while but this experience was just torture. The nurse/doctor was having a hard time finding my veins as she 'stabbed' my arm with the needle, took it out and repeated it again. I don't know if the muscle pain I had because I was playing basketball the night before had anything to do with this but it fucking hurts like hell. Probably embarrassing since I was making faces as well while she was 'stabbing' at my muscles.

Finally, she asked for help of another doctor/nurse/helper and got the needle into my veins. The stinging pain was subsided and blood was finally being pumped into the collection bag.

After the donation, there was a bruising on my arm and patterns that resemble herpes... She must've struck some veins unintentionally (I hope) which caused this. As of now, my left arm still hurts. Hopefully because of the bruising/muscle pains and not because of some unwanted infections...

Blood #1 : Dexter

So I started watching this series called "Dexter". Yea, I've heard about it a few years back about some bloody series but all that came to my mind was Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory (A cartoon I liked when I was a kid).

Dexter's about a guy who's an expert forensics scientist who specializes in blood in the day and a serial killer at night. In general, this series can be related closely to Death note as Dexter only kills those who are guilty/killers that escapes the law.

I've just finished the first season in 3 days (12 one hour episodes) from Tuesday til Thursday... Don't know if I should start with season 2... It would be hard for me to stop since the series is well written and leaves the viewers wanting for more information and clues.

Liverpool, these few weeks you've been breakin my heart

Lost to Manchester United.
Losing out to a league 2 team.
Drawing 2-2 at home to Sunderland and even so, barely scored that equalizer and Sunderland had us by the balls majority of the game, making consistent passes to either Sunderland players or no one.
Dropping to the bottom half of the table
Having owners that care not of the game but the money they earn in their pockets at the end of teh day....
Heart breaking...

Robots revenge

You see a bunch of movies with robots retaliating and going at war against the humans. Why do we keep making these movies and in turn give awareness to the robots of our future that we humans are but fragile beings? Movies on peace-making robots should be made more and abolish war-crazy robots for a better caring human-robot future~.... lame

Thoughts and ponder

Some how during speeches in movies, the audience/public always seem to bring along with them fruits and vegetables to throw...

Today,long day

Start up the morning with studying for HDFS exam I'll be having at 12.40pm. Found out 3 hours before the exam that there was an extra chapter covered.
After looking at genitals close up with/without STI/STDs from studying for HDFS,, I head over to McD's for a quick lunch... My appetite wasn't fazed... maybe because I was too hungry.
Exam went well... can only hope for the best since the answers were either confusing or relatively close to one another.

At ChE lab, had to stare at how a Multiple Effects Evaporator works. Somehow kept spelling it as "Mass Effect Evaporator"Too much games/ mass effect exposure me thinks. Lab was 4 hours long.. but it felt longer than usual today. Hardly moving much.... just staring at condensing water vapors dropping into a reservoir. Outside? Hardly any different with the rain.

Now, falling sick? Feverish...too much rain... too wet... should sleep...

Straight up

Heard this song while eating at McD's for lunch~ Haven't heard it in ages!

Straight up, now tell me
Do you really wanna love me forever
Oh, oh, oh
Or am I caught in a hit-and-run?
Straight up, now tell me
Is it gonna be you and me together
Oh, oh, oh
Or are you just havin' fun?

Favors?

Been doing a bunch of favors/volunteer work/donations recently. Though I can't help feeling like it's been forgotten. People who hardly talk to me will suddenly send me a message for help and after helping them, disappears again into the shadows... never to be heard or seen again until the next time they require my assistance.
Even if they do try to repay the favor... I can't seem to bring myself to accept their gratitude. Felt like I didn't really earn it even if I spent countless hours of my time on helping them. Even a small gift would be hard to accept. Treating me with food for my sacrifices made me even more uneasy as it usually involves a restaurant and me sitting in front of that individual feeling like I didn't do enough to deserve this. On the other hand if it was food that I really like (ie. pineapple tarts) I would gladly accept it with a thick face.
Looking at myself I realized that I too am like them(asking favors and disappearing) sometimes. I guess this could be a reason why I avoid asking for help and feeling indebted to others.

Flattered

"I'm flattered"
"You flatter me"
"You're flatter than that TV screen"

The English language and be weird sometimes...

Flat :- Something without bumps/ smooth even surface*
Flatter :- A comparison of flat stuff?*
Flattered :- Past tense of 'Flatter' ??*

How and who came up with these words??

Career Fair Fall 2010

It's that time again but it's different this time for me.
Usually I would just print out my resume on plain A4 paper with a cheap pathetic portfolio (cardboard paper) to bring with me.
This time, none of that cheap stuff. I'm serious this time. Special resume paper, with leather portfolio!

End result? Unknown and uncertain...

Overall this semester's career fair in general was horrid. Though it's better than the one during spring this year where about 50% of the registered companies couldn't turn up because of a blizzard. This year, because of the August floods in Ames, most of the usual indoor locations could not be used to cater this year's career fair. Instead, makeshift temporary tents were used and placed on uneven grounds.

Yea, this might seem like a good idea at first.... IF IT'S NOT RAINING THE WHOLE GADDAMN DAY! In the tent, the ground is covered with some plastic-fur-like-carpeting yet water seeps through with each step on it. As mentioned before, the ground below the carpeting isn't actually flat. There are uneven surfaces and areas where rain water collects. One wrong step and there goes your shoes. I'm pretty sure many who wore high heels or flip flops that day were not enjoying it one bit.
I thought it's been long enough for the indoors of Fisher/Hilton to be dried out and cleaned out. Guess not...
What impression does this give the registered companies towards ISU?

A plus side though is that since it's raining, cool air was being blown in the tents sardined with people. If wasn't cool enough, I'm sure people will be complaining about the heat instead... So either ways, hot or cold, TENTS MUST GO.

Polka dot bikinis

Got me thinking again...
since that LMFAO song "I'm in ___ " came out, there's a part in the lyrics that go,

"Hey! You look kinda cute, in that polka dot bikini girl"

Think of how that affected girls from ever wearing a polka dot bikini.
Would they wear it more because they want guys to think of them like that song or would they wear them less because they're embarrassed of that pickup line?

And as for guys, you see a cute girl in a polka dot bikini, would the first thing that goes to your mind is "Hey! She look kinda cute in that polka dot bikini" with the same melody/rhythm as that song?

Also for bikini manufacturers, were there a huge boost in sales of polka dot bikinis or a drop in sales?

How did I not put the pieces together?! HDFS 276

I know I should've noticed these earlier since I've heard about these 'unsymmetrical' body parts before. It was only until recently I put the pieces together...

It's normal for females to have one boob slightly larger than the other (usually left)
It's normal for males to have one testicle/sack larger than the other

Why is this so??? Which part of evolution made it that way and for what purpose?

Price difference in phones?

My current dream phone (the I9000 Samsung Galaxy S) costs about $600 (cheapest I can find).
A newly announced inferior phone (spec wise) the Desire Z costs almost the same because of an extra full QWERTY keyboard built in.
Older models? About the same price range as well such as the SE-X10 and others alike.

My choice of phones depends heavily right now on the fact that the phone should have a QWERTY keyboard and the latest android OS.... So expensive.... I need a job. Which reminds me, I gotta get my resume ready for Tuesday.

Sad and embarrassed to be called a 'Malaysian'

..... especially with all these racism bullshit going on during the Merdeka (independence) month

Racism in Malaysia (again)

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/khairy-cites-example-of-namewees-racism/

The article above from Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin about the singer Namewee, mention that the principal of the recent racist remarks where she announced during a school assembly that
"“Chinese students are not needed here and can return to China or Foon Yew schools. For the Indian students, the prayer string tied around their neck and wrist makes them look like dogs because only dogs are tied like that"

should be punished but it is by no means necessary for Chinese/Indians/other minorities to retaliate with racism.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

....but the question remains, why haven't the authorities done anything about the principal but instead went to find Namewee at his doorstep?

Merdeka 2010

Last year it was the cow stomping, this year the principal incident.... over 50 years of independence and living with one another and these racism stuff still surfaces. There are other problems more important (eg. baby dumping) to deal with right now and we don't need to fight amongst ourselves.

Selamat Hari Merdeka.

Update :
Apparently the news right now in Malaysia is focusing on the arrest of Namewee because of a rap video he made voicing his opinions on the racist principal. People are beginning to question that the principal incident was brought to light for about 2 weeks but Namewee's video was only out for a few days yet the police reacted swiftly trying to arrest Namewee for questioning rather than the principals who incite racism.

Another incident (unsure if this is true) regarding the Merdeka celebrations in Malaysia at night where a group of teenage Malays ganged up on some chinese kicking them and injuring them before just walking away... According to the victim, the police didn't care and the assailants laughed and gave a remark "balik negara asal.. (go back to your home country)"...
In my opinion, THIS (Malaysia) is my home country. I was born and raised here. I grew up in Malaysia.

My cellphones since 2000-2010

It all started with a 3310... but I lost it and somehow it got stolen at a Cybercafe.....
It was thus replaced by this Siemens C30. Which despite it's shape does not vibrate. So jokes aside, it has a silent mode but I was in secondary school back then and times I can't turn it to silent mode it plays a very high pitched ringtone....

About some time before or after I finished secondary I was given my mom's 3310 which lasted all the way until after NS (which was really battered the way I treated it) and was handed down to my lil sister after I used it for about 6 months through college. I was then given this Nokia 2100.
Until about March 2007 when I got my hands on a Sony Ericsson k800i which I'm using til now. It has scratches here and there but it's in way better shape than my late 3310 or 2100. Heck it lasts longer than them. The 2100? Was given to my sister ~ I kinda feel bad for her always getting 2nd hand stuff from me at times.

Equal Rights in Malaysia vs Singapore

Extracted from this article from voiceitout.com

Singapore Malays ‘Kowtow’ to others, Says Mahathir

KUALA TERENGGANU – MALAYS in Malaysia could end up as a weak minority if they remain politically divided, said former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, comparing them to Malay Singaporeans.

Even though Malay Singaporeans enjoy the benefits of a more developed country, they had to ‘kowtow’ to others, he claimed yesterday, returning to a rhetoric he often espoused as prime minister.

Dr Mahathir addressed some 1,000 Malay activists at a Malay rights rally in the capital of Terengganu state. This was well below the expected turnout of 5,000, and organisers blamed this on the World Cup, reported The Star newspaper.

Dr Mahathir said: ‘The position of the Malays (in Malaysia) is in deep crisis and precarious. If they do not think deeply and act wisely, one day, we could become like Malay Singaporeans, a group without power who have to terbongkok-bongkok (kowtow) before others.

We do not want others to kowtow before us, but we want a fair distribution of power and wealth.’

Tun Dr Mahathir’s speech came amid fears among some in the community that Malays will lose their dominant status in Malaysia, especially with the increasing influence of opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat and its focus on multiracialism.

Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/SEAsia/Story/STIStory_540409.html

My two cents: Mahathir have said it! Malays in Singapore apparently need to kowtow to others. I think he is not very sensitive to Singapore Malays feelings over his remarks, and have definitely anger many of them by now. About 14% of 4.8 million population of Singapore is Malay, living happily and growing!

Many Singapore Malays object to his remarks of course. In Singapore, the hardworking Singaporean Malays will be recognise and benefit from the meritocratic system and work with dignity for those Singapore Malays that graduate with professional degree. Some have also mention that they are happy to be able stand equal among other Singaporean rather than being spoon-fed all the time.

I am not very sure what is Mahathir is trying to achieve during the Malay rights rally but I guess that people finds it more important to watch world cup game instead as only 1,000 people show up. (This was well below the expected turnout of 5,000, and organisers blamed this on the World Cup, reported The Star newspaper).

One of the replies:-

MR AHMAD ABU BAKAR: ‘I strongly object to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remarks. Like others, Malay Singaporeans work hard for the benefits in a meritocratic system. They are not born with a crutch of ethnic rights, quotas and ‘unfair’ opportunities. When Singapore Malays graduate from universities as doctors, engineers and scientists, they can hold their heads as high as the others, because they have done so by their own hard work and merit.’

-------------------------------------

I can see how that could anger some Singaporeans. They're considered to be looked down on by their Malaysian counterparts. But then again, Dr. M's argument
one day, we could become like Malay Singaporeans, a group without power who have to terbongkok-bongkok (kowtow) before others.
Yea, sounds like he's indirectly dissing the minorities in Malaysia as well.

Personally I like the part where the world cup was more important than this. This shows that such 'power' is no longer important in this day and society of football addicts~
